About the Instructors Patti Mclaughlin has been knitting for many years and is a strong proponent of the zen of knitting. She has a lengthy waiting list of people vying for her socks. Hilary Jones believes the practices of knitting and yoga go hand in hand. To her knitting is joy it is expression it is meditation in motion it is therapy. And it is a practice all of her loved ones have benefited from at one time or another (usually in the form of cozy striped socks). Janna Valle is an avid knitter and weaver. She is currently an art student in the Textiles Program at Capilano University and is founder of Vancouver Yarn, Vancouver's online yarn directory (www.vancouveryarn.com). She has a special passion for yarn; dying it, knitting with it and weaving with it. She always has a dye-pot going, her loom warped up and a knitting project on the go.www.jannamaria.com Kirsten Zerbinis is a Port Moody based fiber artist and teacher. She has been knitting for 26 years and encourages all those around her to pick up needles and give it a go. So far, most of her friends and many of her neighbours have submitted to her unending insistence that knitting makes life better, and they really should try it. She is a devotee of Elizabeth Zimmerman, who declared, “Really, all you need to become a good knitter is wool, needles, hands and below-average intelligence. Of course superior intelligence, like yours and mine is an advantage.” She believes that bravery and a devotion to experimenting will make you a better knitter than any pattern book. Lara Veerasammy is passionate about crochet and cross-stitching. She has been crocheting for over 30 years where the 1 st project, under Mom's tutelage, was a yellow daisy made with cotton thread. Many a childhood afternoon was spent with both mom and “grand” (next to her rocker) with hooks and crochet cotton. Growing up in a tropical climate, allowed for no other crochet patterns than those lovely doilies, runners, and chair sets. Being able to make them were the pride of local women. Since moving to Canada, fibre choices have grown to embrace warmer fibres and the wearable projects that compliment them. Recent years has seen a complete focus on wearables. Lara does not knit. |
